Robert Lawrence Friedman, Ph.D.

As the pioneering architect behind therapeutic drumming, Robert illuminates the path to rhythm-based healing and transformation.

His breakthrough books introduced rhythm-based therapy as a vehicle for health and wellness.  Robert published the first drumming book to focus solely on the health aspects of drumming “The Healing Power of the Drum” (White Cliffs Media 2001) and The Healing Power of the Drum Book II, (Pathway Books 2010).   Yet, his personal pursuit of spirituality truly revealed his profound mission.  Robert's expertise has led to national and international media attention. He was featured on the year-long Discovery Health Channel documentary, Class of '75. Other appearances have included The Howard Stern Show, NBC News, The Alive and Wellness Show (CNBC), The Today Show (NBC), and international news programs on Fuji and Sankei Television in Japan.  He was awarded the Hearst Scholar Award in 2014 by the University of Northern Iowa for his innovative work in rhythm-based therapeutic training programs.  In addition, he has been interviewed for articles in The Wall Street Journal, U.S. News and World Report, The Washington Times, New York Newsday, Self Magazine, and The Daily Beast.

Robert's impactful journey spans a wide range of meaningful contributions.  In the aftermath of the Sandy Hook massacre in Connecticut, he was invited to provide vital healing rhythm-based therapeutic drum circles to the parents, teachers, and children affected by this horrific massacre. His expertise also extended to survivors of the 9/11 tragedy, as he was asked to attend the International Burn Congress to provide essential rhythm-based support to the survivors. In 2018, he was invited to the Dominican Republic to bring his rhythm-based therapeutic skills and comfort to children facing terminal cancer.  He has provided his programs internationally throughout Canada, Switzerland, Spain, Ireland, Austria, Malaysia, and Singapore.  In his workshops and retreats, Robert embodies the essence of his programs, radiating compassion and wisdom, and inviting participants to explore the depths of self-discovery and personal growth through the power of rhythm.  Robert's drumming sessions transcend typical workshops; they are immersive voyages into the soul, where each beat represents a step toward inner peace. With Robert leading the way, therapeutic journeys are carefully designed to unlock the hidden potential within each individual. His vast experience blends seamlessly with his therapeutic insight, forming a comprehensive approach that addresses the unique needs of his audiences.   Robert’s dedication and passion ensure that every experience he crafts is both richly luxurious and spiritually uplifting, making a significant impact on all who participate.
